Emergency Response

Emergency Response

CSP has been supporting the Government in dealing the humanitarian crisis and emergency response services. CSP collaborates with state institutions linking them with its young volunteers to take them on-board while responding emergencies. A recent example is a successful COVID-19 Response Joint Venture of CSP with district governments of Islamabad in capital territory, Rawalpindi in Punjab province and district Mirpur, Bhimber, Haveli and Neelum in the state of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) and Emergency Response in district Neelum Valley in relief distribution amongst victims along the Line of Control. CSP volunteers are also supporting federal government in the application of its COVID-19 containment SOPs under Prime Minister’s Tiger Force. CSP trained volunteers also provide support to other in-country humanitarian actors enabling them reach out marginalized segments and neglected communities in far-flung remote areas. Community Services Programme (CSP) Volunteers were engaged to distribute NFI’s among the most deserving community. With the help of Penny, Appeal CSP has distributing NFI is to 270 vulnerable and marginalized households who had lost their resources during the flood in Pasni, Gwadar Baluchistan and in Neelum AJ&K during snow falling. To contribute to the psychological and physical survival of the affected population by providing the means to preserve their health and ensure their welfare, safety, and dignity. Distribution of NFI should always be viewed as a potential activity at the beginning of any emergency and, unless we have absolute assurance from other organizations, we must be prepared to intervene in this domain.

Key areas of interventions:

Identification and rapid assessment of vulnerable population

CSP plays a vital role in emergency response efforts across Pakistan and Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJ&K), providing timely humanitarian assistance to communities affected by natural disasters, health crises, and cross-border emergencies. The organization actively responds to winter emergencies, floods, the COVID-19 pandemic, and cross-border crises, particularly in hard-to-reach and remote areas where access to basic services is limited. Working in alignment with government policies and in close coordination with relevant authorities, CSP ensures that relief interventions are organized, transparent, and effectively targeted.

Provision of shelter, food and non-food items to affected communities

CSP extends humanitarian support through the provision of shelter, food, and essential non-food items to affected and vulnerable communities during emergencies and crises. The organization ensures timely distribution of relief supplies, including temporary shelter materials, clothing, hygiene kits, and daily-use household items, to help families and meet their immediate needs. This assistance reduces hardship, restores dignity, and supports community resilience in challenging situations.

Provision of medical support to disaster hit areas

CSP provides medical support to disaster-hit areas by organizing emergency health services, medical camps, and the distribution of essential medicines and supplies. Through trained healthcare staff, health department support, linkages with partners and community coordination, CSP ensures timely treatment and preventive care for affected populations. This intervention helps reduce health risks, control the spread of diseases, and support the recovery and well-being of vulnerable communities during emergencies.

Support to vulnerable communities in WASH, Livelihood and Disaster Risk & Reduction sectors

CSP provides comprehensive support to vulnerable communities in the sectors of WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), livelihoods, and Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). Through improved access to clean water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene awareness, the institute promotes healthier living conditions. Simultaneously, it strengthens livelihoods by creating income-generating opportunities and building local capacities. In the area of Disaster Risk Reduction, CSP enhances community preparedness, resilience, and risk mitigation measures to minimize the impact of natural and human-induced disasters.
